Hey everyone! We didn't have much time to talk about the character of Robert Walton last Friday so lets talk about him on our blog. He's an interesting character despite his rather small role in the text.Walton is trying to find the northwest passage — it would revolutionize world trade, and make him very famous and rich. This we know about our fearless seaman, but what else can we say about Walton? Here are three questions for you to think about and respond to!1. Why does Walton admire the stranger, Dr. Frankenstein?

3. Why does Frankenstein tell Walton his story?
4. And who is Marge Simpson suppose be in this picture?

1. I believe that Walton likes Frankenstein because he believes he has something that can help him. I think that he thinks that Frankenstein knows information that can help Walton gain the fame and popularity he longs for.
I think that Marge Simpson in the picture could possibly be portraying Mary Shelly from the power point that we discussed in class.

Walton admires the stranger, Dr. Frankenstein because he's very different thanhimself and he can learn new things and views of life from him. Walton and Frankestein are very different, however they are a like in some ways. Both Walton and Dr. Frankstein both love to communicate and want to succeed in finding mroe ways to do so. Frankenstien continues to tell Walton his story to get closer with him. This was a way for Walton to understand Frankenstien more. Marge Simpson is supposed to look like Dr. Frankenstein.
1. I think that Walton admires the stranger because he is lonely and in need of a friend. I believe that he thinks that this stranger can be his friend.
2. Walton and Dr. Frankenstein are alike because they are lonely and traveling to find something (possibly there self).
3. Dr. Frankenstein wanted to tell Walton about himself, and what his life has been like.

I agree with a lot of Brittany's comments. I think that she is right when she says that the reason that Walton and Dr. Frankenstein are alike is because they are both lonely. Also, I think that she is right about Walton admiring the stranger because there is something different about him.
I disagree with Ellie because I think that Walton just takes him in because he needs help and a friend but I don't think Walton necessarily thinks he knows information that can increase his popularity.
1. Walton admires Dr. Frankenstein because he is the first person who he feels he can connect to. He has been so lonely at sea and has been longing for a friend. Walton feels like this stranger could be his friend.
2. Walton and Frankenstein are alike because they both seem to be exploring something new. Walton is exploring undiscovered land and Frankenstein is exploring science.

This is good for Walton because up until this point he has felt lonely and unappreciated. Since Frankenstein has come aboard Walton has been able to share his feelings and make a connection with someone.
2. Walton and Frankenstein are alike because they are both pioneers of their own trade. Walton is one of the first men to attempt to find the Northwest passage and Dr. Frankenstein was one of the first scientists to create a human.
3. I believe that Frankenstein tells Walton his story because he believes that people need to know what happened to him. If he informs people about the mistakes he made then he can help prevent those mistakes in the future.

1. I think Walton admires Dr. Frankenstein because he sees that the doctor possesses a mysterious quality. I believe that Walton recognizes this and in return wants to learn more about him.

3. Dr. Frankenstein shares his story with Walton because he wants to connect with someone, even a stranger. This demonstrates his desire to have a friend or supporter which is a reflection on his character. It shows his desperation for affection.
I think that Walton is interested in Frankenstien because he is on a quest for knowledge and believes that he can obtain it from Dr. Frankenstien. Also he would like to figure out his motivation to travel to the North Pole.

I agree with what Maya said about the similarity with Walton and Frankenstein. In addition, to what she said, they are both starting "over" and beginning a new chapter in there lives. They both hope that this new chapter will bring them success in there future.
I agree with what Maya said about the connection between Walton and Frankenstein. Because Walton longs for a friend, he finds that Frankenstein is ready and available to be one and someone to communicate with.
I agree with Brittany and Lindsay also. I do think that they are alike because they are both lonely. I also think that Walton admires the stranger because he is something different, and it interests him.

I also thought it was very interesting what Will said about Dr. Frankenstein and Walton being similar because they are both "pioneers of their own trade." I had never thought of there similaritys as they pertained to their actions but rather personality traits. I think Will provided a new way of looking at the charecters as well as their similarities.
i agree with lindsay when she discusses why walton likes the stranger. He thinks this could be a new friend and he's taking advantage of this opportunity so he therefore admires the stranger.
i also agree with her second comment about how they are both lonely and in search for something as well.
